CFHE is looking for a dynamic professional who embodies and practices racial health equity rooted deeply in racial liberation with expertise in small business development, nutrition innovation + research, food equity innovation + research, urban planning, and community development to join our Ujamaa Cafe + Sankofa program team. The Ujamaa Cafe Coordinator will oversee CFHE’s growing program along with our Sankofa Incubator that creates a pipeline for entrepreneurial development and advancement for business dreamers historically overlooked, left out, and marginalized across the small business landscape. Roles and Responsibilities
Role and Responsibilities:
Ujamaa Cafe
Work with the Ujamaa Café staff in maintaining accurate inventory and appropriate accounting of inventory.
Assist Ujamaa Café staff in overseeing the general management and maintenance of all Ujamaa Cafes.
Assist Ujamaa Café staff (when applicable) in the Ujamaa Cafe + Sankofa restocking schedule.
Lead restocking logistics, scheduling, and management
Supervise and coordinate Ujamaa Cafe Restokers schedule.
Training, Development, & Compliance
Serves as a mentor and point of contact to Sankofa Incubates and program lead a it relates to:
New product development and product improvements.
The Sankofa Test Kitchen and pilot lab.
New product research, development, and testing.
Designing and conducting complex shelf life and storage studies, including product and package performance under various conditions, and recommends appropriate product and/or package adjustments as required.
Designing and conducting storage studies, including product and package performance under various conditions.
Conduct cost and pricing analysis for/with Incubates for effectively developing their products
Working with the Outreach and Marketing department, support Incubates brand and concept development.
Working with the Data Officer, assist Incubates in effectively utilizing data insights to develop strong concepts, brand strategies, develop a consumer base and market to consumers.
Serve as compliance lead on all Ujamaa Café products ensuring all Ujamaa Café items meet State and Federal compliance regulations for both free and market value fridges.
Remain current on food safety and regulations related to Ujamaa Cafe + Sankofa programs.
Communicate with Ujamaa Cafe + Sankofa vendors and community partners on the needs of the Cafe and refrigerators.
Annual Sankofa Pitch Competition & Fellowship
Oversee the Sankofa program, curriculum, and success.
Assist with recruitment, training, and development of Sankofa staff.
Assist CFHE leadership in the annual Sankofa Pitch competition
Assist in procuring Sankofa pitch sponsors
Evaluation & Reporting
Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Data Officer, and Program Manager to oversee data collection, analysis, and communication of data analysis reports as well as:
Analyze data to ensure compliance with funding sources.
Prepare detailed and summary reports of findings and communicate findings to program and agency leadership.
Create and implement feedback methods.
Collect and report nutritional information data.
Working with the CEO and Sr. Program Manager, assist in upstream policy efforts that include championing the outcomes and learnings of the program, and deepening relationships with government agencies, elected officials, and community stakeholders to advance our long-term program goals.
Outreach
Work with CFHE's Outreach team to plan, schedule, and execute Ujamaa Cafe + Sankofa pop-up events monthly.
Foster relationships within the community
Plan, manage, and coordinate internal and external marketing projects.
Coordinate with the CFHE Outreach team to create advertising and recruitment materials.
Coordinate and participate in community outreach and digital marketing events for the CFHE community and its partners.
Collaborate with community partners and educational institutions.
Keep a record of outreach and marketing activities and prepare the database and project reports.
Available to work at community events.
Graduate degree in Public Health, Information Technology, Nutrition Science, Health Science Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to work across departments and teams.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the following software applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, adaptability to various competing demands, and demonstrated the highest level of support and response.
A passion for working with community members to address New Jersey’s most pressing hunger and health needs;
Experience in quality management, data collection, and outcomes/performance management.
Local to Hudson or Essex County with availability to work across multiple locations.
Food management experience preferred.
Background in startup business development and growth
Interest in food justice, health equity, wellness, and food insecurity
Ability to work well independently while being team-oriented and having excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of data analytics software, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Sheets.
Driver’s License in good standing
